Francine Strengthens | Fox 26 Houston Weather Forecast

Hurricane Francine is traveling northeast toward coastal Louisiana as a category 1 hurricane. The latest forecast from NHC has Francine strengthening to a category 2 hurricane at landfall later today. SE Texas is on the clean or dry side of Francine. The main tropical impacts for our area will be felt along the coast. There is a Wind Advisory and a Coastal Flood Warning in effect along the immediate coast until this afternoon. Wind gusts along the coast could exceed 35 mph and there is the potential for around 2 feet of storm surge. Inland counties will be breezy with a few isolated thunderstorms. Once Francine makes landfall, SE Texas will see the return of sunshine and warm temperatures through the rest of the week and into the weekend.

Tropical Storm Watch has ended for Southeast Texas but a Coastal Flood Advisory continues for areas on and near the coast through 4 pm Wednesday. Francine could still bring Storm surge up to 3' around Galveston and the Bolivar Peninsula. Scattered tropical downpours will continue, especially tonight through Wednesday morning as Francine gets closer to our area. A few flooded sheets can't be ruled out farther inland. But the biggest flood risk will be near the coast where rain chances are highest. Francine will make landfall around the middle Louisiana Gulf coast Wednesday afternoon likely as a category one hurricane. It then quickly pulls away from Southeast Texas with sunshine and warmer air returning to wrap up the work week. Louisiana cities like Morgan City, New Iberia, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans will all be at risk for hurricane-force winds and coastal areas will have a risk for dangerous storm surges.Look for off-and-on storms that will move into our coastal counties through the day today and tonight with winds increasing late today. Most cities inland like Katy, Sugar Land, Cypress, Spring, etc. will experience few significant impacts other than a strong breeze and scattered storms today and tomorrow.Beyond tomorrow, expect sunshine and very warm late summer weather for us through the weekend and early next week.

After the coolest morning since May, we'll enjoy sunshine and a warm, dry breeze today. Watch for storms from late Tuesday through Wednesday along with periods of gusty winds. There is another system far away in the Atlantic that will probably become a strong hurricane this week but is not a threat to Texas.

Summer cold front| Fox 26 Houston Weather Forecast

Following flooding bear the beaches on Labor Day, today we'll continue a similar pattern with heavy rain south of Houston and more spotty storms closer to town and surrounding suburbs. Look for humid highs in the low 90s.Rain chances will actually rise for Wednesday and especially Thursday, but then...a summer "cold" front! The main change we expect is that the humidity will drop by Saturday and lows could even drop into the upper 60s in spots by Sunday and Monday morning.Surprisingly, there is very little activity in the tropics, but there is a chance for a low to develop and affect the Yucatan later this week. Otherwise, we're in good shape for now.
